About the VPN
The Volunteer Physicians Network (VPN) has been developed to
assist three Treasure Valley community clinics which provide
care for the underserved. Because they are primary care clinics,
they often depend on referrals to specialty providers for
consultations, procedures, and/or surgery. Since their patients
have already qualified as low-income households, they are
usually unable to pay for such specialty care.
Through a comprehensive, web-based system of specialty
physicians, clinics are able to make referrals in a timely
manner. Specialists can determine the parameters of what they
will provide and how often. The goal is to spread the generous
donations of physicians around so that no one provider is called
upon too frequently.
The project is administered by staff at the Garden City
Community Clinic, which recruits physicians and manages the
referral website.
